Privacy Policy

Last updated: October 2026

This Privacy Policy explains how Lensterra collects, uses, and protects your personal information when you use our website, app, or services.

By creating an account or using Lensterra, you agree to this policy.

1. Who we are

Lensterra is an online community for discovering and sharing photo locations.

If you have any questions or requests, please contact us through the form at lensterra.com/contact.

2. What information we collect

We only collect the information necessary to create and manage your account, improve our service, and keep the platform safe.

  • Account information: nickname, email address, and password.
  • Uploaded content: photos, descriptions, and location data you voluntarily share.
  • Device and usage data: basic technical details such as browser type or device used (anonymized).
  • Optional location data: only if you click “Find my location” while adding or viewing a spot. We do not store or track your real-time position.
  • AI moderation data: short text or image snippets automatically checked by our moderation system to detect illegal, explicit, or harmful content.

3. Analytics

We use Koko Analytics to understand how the site is used. It runs locally and does not set cookies, track users across sites, or collect personal data.

4. How we use your data

  • To create and manage your account.
  • To publish your uploaded photos and descriptions.
  • To communicate with you about account or service updates.
  • To detect and prevent spam, NSFW, or illegal content using automated moderation tools.
  • To comply with legal obligations and maintain community safety.

5. AI-based content moderation

To maintain a safe and respectful community, Lensterra uses OpenAI moderation services to automatically check user-generated content (such as spot titles, descriptions, usernames, and uploaded images) for hate speech, nudity, sexual material, or illegal activity.

This process may involve sending short pieces of text or low-resolution versions of images to OpenAI’s servers located outside the European Union.

Data transfers are governed by the European Commission’s Standard Contractual Clauses (SCCs) to ensure compliance with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).

We do not send personal identifiers such as your name, email address, or IP address to OpenAI.

6. Login and registration

You can register with Lensterra using either:

  • Email and password (email verification required before use).
  • Google account sign-in (OAuth authentication provided by Google LLC).

In both cases, you must choose a public nickname. Only this nickname is visible to other users. Your email address is kept private.

7. Image handling

When you upload a photo, we create an optimized version for display and may store a smaller thumbnail for performance reasons. Large or unsupported formats (e.g., GIFs) may be rejected automatically to reduce server load.

Uploaded photos are scanned for explicit or illegal material before being published. We do not share your media with third parties except for the automated moderation described above.

8. Legal basis for processing

Under the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), we process your data based on:

  • Contract: to provide your account and allow content uploads.
  • Consent: when you voluntarily share a photo, description, or location.
  • Legitimate interest: to maintain and improve the service safely.
  • Legal obligation: when required by law.

9. How long we keep your data

Your data is kept only as long as your account exists.

If you delete your account or content, it will be removed from public view and permanently deleted from our systems within a reasonable period, unless required by law.

10. Who can access your data

Your uploaded content is public to other users. Your email and password are never shared.

We may use trusted third-party services for hosting, backups, and AI moderation. All are bound by data protection agreements and comply with GDPR.

11. Your rights under GDPR

You have the right to:

  • Access your data.
  • Correct inaccurate information.
  • Delete your account or content.
  • Withdraw consent at any time.
  • Request a copy of your personal data.
  • Lodge a complaint with your national data protection authority.

To exercise your rights, please contact us via lensterra.com/contact.

12. Security

We use encrypted HTTPS connections, strong password hashing, and modern server security practices.

All login attempts are monitored and protected with rate-limiting and optional reCAPTCHA verification. AI moderation further reduces the risk of harmful or illegal content.

13. Children

Lensterra is for adults only. Users must be at least 18 years old to create an account or upload content.

14. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Any major changes will be announced on the website.

By continuing to use Lensterra, you agree to the updated version.
